Mrs. Turner has served on the Clover Band Staff since 2007 in an adjunct role as Assistant Percussion Director and Front Ensemble Director. Turner has taught students in Clover’s marching band, indoor drumline, and concert percussion ensembles over her tenure. The programs received high awards and recognition throughout South Carolina and nationally with her assistance. The Clover High School Indoor Drumline was a finalist in Winter Guard International in 2012 (PSO), 2014 (PSO), and 2018 (PSA). Clover received the WGI Fan Favorite award for their show “Pop” in 2014 and “Beyond the Thorns” in 2018. Clover High School recently received the 2022 WGI PSA Gold medal for their show “Medusa” and the 2023 WGI PSO Gold medal for “Nevermore.”
In addition to her time at Clover, she is the former Director of Bands at Great Falls High School in Great Falls, South Carolina. She continues to perform with local bands and percussion ensembles, teaches privately at her studio, and offers clinician and design consultation. Anne Lewis Turner also serves as the Front Ensemble Caption Head for Civitas Independent, located in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She has been involved with the organization since 2015 when she first appeared as a guest clinician with the group. With her assistance, Civitas Independent has received high awards and national recognition. Civitas Independent was recently named the 2022 PIO Silver medalist for their show “The Noise Within” and ranked 4th in PIO in 2023. Anne served as a WGI Advisory Board member in 2019, a CWEA advisory board member in 2019, and as a presenter for the 2022 WGIcon. She also appeared as an artist/performer for the 2017 New York Sounds of Spring Festival at Carnegie Hall in New York, New York. Mrs. Turner for the past two years has been the Graduate Teaching Assistant at Winthrop University and graduated in May 2023 with a Masters of Music in Percussion Performance, and a Master of Music in Wind Conducting. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumental Music Education. She studied under the direction of Dr. Lori Crochet, Dr. B. Michael Williams, Dr. Adam Snow, and Dr. Douglas Presely. Anne is married to Brian Turner, and along with Anne’s daughter, Emily, are all percussionists! They reside in Rock Hill, SC in a house full of instruments!
Over the course of the school year Mrs. Turner will be working with students at Clover High School, Clover and Oakridge Middle Schools respectively. The Clover Band program has experienced growth at every level between the three schools. We have seen an influx in numbers in band at both OMS and CMS with larger numbers at Clover Middle School. Mrs. Turner serves as Associate Director of Bands for the program and Assistant Percussion Director alongside Percussion Director Mr. Ryan Hall.
